Silver 1922 Relay Race Winners Medal T S CORNWALL Nautical Training School
Originally launched in 1815 as the 74-gun Royal Navy warship HMS Wellesley, the vessel was loaned to the School Ship Society in 1868. It was renamed T.S. Cornwall and permanently moored on the River Thames (at Purfleet and later Denton) to serve as a nautical training school for juvenile offenders and disadvantaged youth. The ship met its end in 1940 when it was severely damaged during a German Blitz air raid, making it the last British ship of the line to be sunk by enemy action.
